People seek the support of a Psychologist for a range of reasons. Sometimes they have a specific issue that they are struggling to resolve on their own, or they may have a sense that their life is off track. The vast majority of people enter therapy with the goal of feeling better and improving their social and emotional wellbeing.
No, you do not need a referral to see a Psychologist at Oasis Psychology. However, a referral from your GP accompanied by a Mental Health Treatment Plan (if deemed appropriate by your GP) will enable you to access a rebate through Medicare which leaves only a gap fee for you to pay. A Mental Health Treatment Plan usually allows for a rebate on up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Please see FEES & REBATES for more information.
Each session is 50mins duration.
In the first session, a thorough assessment of your current situation and relevant past experiences will be undertaken to understand the nature of the difficulties for which you are seeking treatment. You will receive an explanation about the types of therapy that would be best suited to you and your unique situation (including Cognitive behaviour therapy CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ACT). If relationship counselling is being sought, your assessment sessions will include both a couples session and individual sessions, to best assess and plan treatment to the couples needs. Please note that everyone’s circumstances are different and therapy is tailored to suit your individual needs.
When you make an appointment at Oasis Psychology, we reserve the whole hour for you and time is spent preparing for your session. As a result, we require a minimum of 24 hours notice for cancellation of a session. This is to allow time to offer the appointment to another client or someone on the cancellation waiting list. Unfortunately, if less than 24 hours notice is given, a cancellation fee of 100% of your session fee will be incurred. This fee is not subject to a medicare or private health fund rebate. Please call the Office Manager at any time (even after hours) on 0424 475 432 and arrange to reschedule your appointment. Cancellation fees may be waivered in exceptional circumstances.
